"etymology_text": "Internationalism, ultimately from Old French Alberon, based on Middle High German Alberich (“elf king, fairy king”). The Germanic name contains alp (“elf, fairy”) and a second element ultimately from *rīks (“king, ruler”). The name also appears in Old French as Auberon and passed into English as Oberon.\nThe legendary figure is first depicted in the medieval French poem Huon of Bordeaux and later appears prominently as the king of the fairies and husband of Titania in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.\nThe moon of Uranus was discovered by William Herschel in 1787 and was named after the literary Oberon. The town of Oberon in New South Wales, formerly known as Bullock Flat, was renamed in 1863 after Shakespeare's king of the fairies. Oberon in North Dakota was likewise given its present name in 1886 in reference to A Midsummer Night's Dream.\nThe computing name derives from the moon. Niklaus Wirth chose Oberon as the name of his project at ETH Zurich after Voyager 2's encounter with Uranus and its moons in 1986; the programming language was subsequently given the same name as the system.\nParallel international forms include Danish Oberon, Swedish Oberon, German Oberon, French Obéron, Spanish Oberón, Finnish Oberon and English Oberon.",
